According to Xzalyn, Gateway has had a huge impact on the person she has become. “I came into Gateway not knowing much about myself and lacking confidence, but now I am leaving Gateway feeling confident and proud of who I am. I became a stronger person at Gateway.”
Xzalyn completed two medical internships during her time at Gateway with the most recent one being at the Maxine Hall Health Center. “My internships helped me understand what nurses and doctors do on a daily basis, how they interact with their patients, and what will be required of me when I enter the profession.”
She plans on studying nursing at San Francisco State University and is excited to attend college close to home so she can continue being a mentor to her younger sister. “I’m teaching her that it’s ok to ask for help, something that I learned at Gateway.”
