Mark is a Professor of Teacher Education and Associate Dean for Research in the Lurie College of Education at San José State University. As a teacher educator and research psychologist, he focuses on classroom dialogue and evidence-based reasoning in history and science classrooms. He has applied this work to support young adolescents' academic literacy and argumentative discourse in projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Office of English Language Acquisition. He earned a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University (1990) and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Development from Columbia University (1999).
