A new Gateway tradition was born on October 19 when more than 60 people joined us at City Beer Store for a night of tasty beverages and incredible tamales in support of Gateway Public Schools. Together, guests raised more than $5,000 for Gateway students – not too shabby for a night on the town!
The event was made possible by Trustee and longtime friend of Gateway Harper Matheson, who graciously hosted the evening. Participants enjoyed a guided beer tasting and had the opportunity to ask the store’s knowledgeable beer experts questions about the different brews on offer. Tamales were provided by Alicia’s Tamales, a business seeded by our partners at La Cocina SF, which helps start and promote restaurants led by immigrants and women of color in San Francisco.
“I loved the casual atmosphere and being able to connect with alumni, board members, and potential new members of our school community,” said Gateway’s Community Engagement Manager, Alexandria Wyllie.
This was the first of several “Gateway Salon” events planned for the coming year: intimate, experience-based fundraising events designed to generate excitement around Gateway’s mission in the greater San Francisco community. Be on the lookout for more events like this in the coming months!
