Volunteers Needed to Help with Gateway High School’s College Counseling Program

Gateway High School is looking for volunteers to support the College Counseling program. Gateway's college counseling program helps to ensure that all students successfully navigate the college preparation and admissions process.

Below are the events and classes we are in need of support for this semester -- volunteer training and ongoing support will be provided for all opportunities:

1. Financial Aid Night (for FAFSA and the California Dream Act) Volunteers: Thursday, October 25 from 5-7 pm
Volunteers will be paired with families to start working through online applications
Experience with FAFSA or Dream Act is ideal
Bilingual volunteer support is especially needed

2. After school SAT Prep Volunteers: Tuesdays, October 2, 16 and 30 from 3:30 - 5pm
Work with student in small groups or 1:1 helping with SAT prep
Volunteer familiarity of SAT and SAT format is ideal

3. Ongoing College Counseling Classroom Volunteers:
Help students with writing their personal statements and completing college applications
We are looking for volunteers who are available to consistently volunteer on the same day/time for an extended period of time. Support is needed:
Tuesdays: 8:15 - 9:50 am
Wednesdays: 8:15 - 9:50 am or 1:00 - 2:30 pm
Thursdays: 9:55 - 11:30 am
Fridays: 9:05 - 10:40 am or 12:20 - 1:55 pm

4. Full Day College Field Trip Volunteer Chaperones: October 4 (San Jose State) and October 19 (UC Berkeley)
Volunteers will help with student supervision/logistics and serve as a positive role model for the group
