Gateway is excited to announce that James Ryan, 11th dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will speak at our 15th Annual Matters of the Mind Luncheon on Tuesday, October 10th, 2017.
Ryan is a leading expert on law and education and a New York Times bestselling author. He has written extensively about the ways in which education creates opportunity. Ryan received his A.B. summa cum laude from Yale and his J.D. from the University of Virginia, graduating first in his class. After law school, Ryan clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist and later worked as public interest lawyer before entering into teaching.
His most recent book, Wait, What? And Life’s Other Essential Questions, distills the art of good questions we should all be asking ourselves that lead to a deeper understanding of what matters most in life. The book is based off of his wildly popular commencement address to the Harvard Graduate School of Education Class of 2016.
“At Gateway, we’re always encouraging our students to ask questions that allow them to generate a deeper understanding of who they are, the world around them, and how they can make a meaningful difference in their community,” explains Sharon Olken, Gateway’s Executive Director. “James Ryan’s work in sparking curiosity, initiating progress, and fortifying relationships is aligned with Gateway’s mission and philosophy, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our community.”
Please join us for our 15th Annual Matters of the Mind Luncheon with James Ryan!
