Investing in Teacher Growth

Teaching is an art, a science and a craft, and even the most talented practitioners need dedicated time to hone their skills and keep abreast of the latest developments and best practices in their field. That’s why we make professional development a priority for teachers at all phases of their career – and we back it up with the scheduled time and budget to make the most of it.

Marcio

I'm feeling really supported this year working with my coach. She helps me think about and improve my presence as a teacher, my relationship with my students ... just about everything.”

Coaching

All early career teachers are paired with an expert mentor through our in-house induction program (learn more). Additional coaching is available to all teachers around areas of growth such as classroom management or equitable practices.

Book Studies

Faculty select books to read as a community both over the summer and during the school year, rooting their PD sessions in these texts and giving staff a common language to work from. Past book studies have included texts like Cultivating Genius and Do the Work! An Anti-Racist Activity Book.

Conferences

Gateway teachers can be found at conferences across the country throughout the school year and over the summer, such as the “NoVo SEL In Action Convening,” the Association for Ethnic Studies’ annual conference, or our very own Powerful Learners Convening.
