Gateway Middle School and Gateway High School were recently selected to be part of a nationwide report highlighting effective school practices that support diverse learners.
GMS and GHS were two of five schools across the country selected to be part of this prestigious report, which is funded by the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative and researched and written by the Learning Policy Institute (LPI).
The study aims to document promising school practices that show how the creation of a positive school culture, along with a curriculum focused on meaningful learning, has led to improved motivation, sense of belonging, graduation rates, and academic achievement for students.
LPI researchers interviewed members of our Gateway community and observed classes, professional development meetings, and school-wide events to understand and document how our schools employ restorative justice practices, offer mental health support, implement academic programs with hands-on learning, and provide students with college and career ready skills.
The report will be released in the Fall of 2018 and provide an analysis of the lessons learned across all schools included in the study. LPI will also produce a policy brief detailing the policy implications at the school, district, and state level for supporting and sustaining model schools like Gateway.
At Gateway, we are proud of all that we do to support our students and we are excited to be able to work with organizations and researchers who want to share practices beyond our own schools.
