Families and community members joined Gateway High School on Tuesday, March 15, to participate in Genocide Awareness Night, an evening of learning and conversation. Students in Humanities 10 studied the Holocaust, read Elie Wiesel's memoir Night, and researched modern genocides including those in Darfur, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Cambodia.
During the evening, students shared their research on a modern genocide and lead discussions based on the themes and questions explored in class. Genocide Awareness Night provides a unique opportunity for students and adults to examine complex ideas such as discrimination, isolation and dehumanization together.
