How is Financial Aid Calculated

  • All colleges use a simple formula to determine financial-need: Cost of Attendance (COA) - Expected Family Contribution (EFC) =Financial Need
  • Cost of Attendance (COA) includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, meals, and personal expenses.
  • Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is the amount the Federal Government determines a family can contribute towards their child's education. The EFC is calculated from income and assets reported by parents and student.
