Biography

Jazzlyn Kaleohano joined Gateway May of 2018 as the Registrar and Data Reporting Manager. Prior to joining Gateway she worked at a charter school in the East Bay for 8 years where she gained skills in varying areas of school office administrative work. She was born and raised in the East Bay but now enjoys living in San Francisco and is pursuing a BS in Visual Communication Design.

Rachel Kamen

Biography

Rachel Kamen started at Gateway Public Schools in December 2015 as the Director of Partnerships. In this role, Rachel leads efforts in building community partnerships to augment enrichment opportunities Gateway offers students in the classroom and beyond. Rachel is a nonprofit professional with a passion for youth empowerment, education, community engagement and social justice. She has held leadership roles in multiple Bay Area nonprofits, including the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, Project Open Hand, and We Teach Science Foundation. Rachel received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Western Ontario, and completed a Master’s in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. In her free time you will find Rachel on the move outdoors: hiking, running, at the beach, or on a tennis court.

Sam Kary

Humanities and Learning Seminar Teacher
Biography

Prior to teaching in San Francisco, Sam worked as a Teach For America corps member for three years in Richmond. He has his Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish from the University of Colorado and his Master of Arts in English from The Ohio State University. Sam is originally from the Bay Area and enjoys cycling and skiing in his spare time. He also loves to travel and have adventures, and speaks conversational Spanish and Portuguese.

Stephanie Khaziran

Assistant Principal
Biography

Ms. Khaziran joined the Gateway family in 2015 and is the Assistant Principal of Student Life. She grew up in Los Angeles, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology. She moved to San Francisco in order to pursue a Master of Arts from USF in Counseling Psychology. After several years of working as a school counselor in San Francisco, Ms. Khaziran attended the UC Berkeley Principal Leadership Institute, where she earned her Master of Arts in Education. When she isn't running around the halls of Gateway, Ms. Khaziran spends her time teaching graduate students at USF and exploring the Bay Area.

Nicholas Lake

Biography

The 2016-2017 school year represents Nick's fourth year at Gateway High School. He works in the Learning Center as a para, offering support to all children in the classes in which he is placed. Additionally, he has been working with the robotics program since its inception in the 2013-14 school year. He looks forward to the challenge of teaching computer science in the 2015-16 school year, and hopes to soon begin work on his teaching credential so that he may serve as a full-time classroom teacher.

Originally from Los Angeles, Nick took his B.A. in history from California State University, Long Beach. He has many hobbies and interests, such as gardening, playing cello, reading & writing, and woodworking.

Helen Liang

Biography

Helen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising and Communications & Rhetorical Studies from Syracuse University and earned her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco, with dual concentration in School Counseling and Clinical Counseling. In addition to teaching at Gateway, Helen concurrently offers individual psychotherapy in downtown San Francisco, practicing through the auspices of Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center. Prior to coming to Gateway, Helen has worked for Teach For America, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, UNICEF, and Agile Mind. Helen finds great joy in spending quality time with loved ones, doing arts and crafts, taking long walks, and spending time in her community garden.

Chanda Lockhart

Director of Development and Outreach
Biography

Chanda is the Director of Development and Outreach, and brings more than 10 years of nonprofit development experience to Gateway Public Schools. Prior to Gateway, Chanda served as the Development Director at Seven Tepees Youth Program. Chanda earned her B.A. in Mass Communications and Public Relations from Towson University, and M.S. in Holistic Health and Nutrition Education from Hawthorn University. As the child of a military family, Chanda isn’t really from anywhere but claims Baltimore (pronounced Bawl-d-moor) as home. Chanda has lived in San Francisco since 2012; the longest stretch of living in the same place in her entire life. She is the founder #ladyboss, a professional women's meet-up group, dreams of cooking with Chef Yotam Ottelenghi, and loves a good spin class.

Sara Marcopulos

Biography

Sara was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from Gateway High School in 2011. After graduating from Gateway, she completed her undergraduate work at the University of San Francisco and obtained her bachelors of science in physics with a minor in astronomy. She is hoping to attend a master's program and looks forward to teaching high school physics in the future. During her free time she enjoys reading and trying new foods throughout the San Francisco area.

Jenna Marx

Biography

Jenna has a Bachelor's in Community Studies from UCSC and a Master's in Counseling Psychology from USF. She is a lifelong Bay Area resident who grew up in Belmont in the peninsula and has been in San Francisco since 2010. She has worked with youth in various roles and environments including as a writing coach and mentor, a music instructor, a substitute teacher, an after school program teacher, and in community settings while organizing youth-focused music and arts events. For fun she plays guitar and sings in punk and indie bands, and in the summers she works for the organization Bay Area Girls Rock Camp. She is excited to join the Gateway team as a college and career instructor and counselor!
